The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) joins the conversation of the 3rd Latin American and Caribbean Housing and Habitat Forum through its three panelists: Andrés Blanco, Michael Donovan and Mario Durán. They will be joining us in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from June 12 to June 14, 2018.
These experts will focus on three topics:
- Housing and zoning policies;
- Improvement of neighborhoods;
- Revitalization of historic landmarks, especially in the cases of Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, among others.
The Forum will also offer spaces known as LAVs where ideas and perspectives can be shared. During the LAVs, expert panelists will share their knowledge; the conferences will be documented through video. Related resources will be available in the UHPH Platform along with other related materials.
Andrés Blanco, one of the panelists, is a senior specialist in Urban Development and Housing from the IADB. His work focuses on the economic aspects of planning related to housing and land use. He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and a Master’s in Planning for Regional Development from the University of the Andes in Bogotá, as well as a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning from Cornell University.
Michael Donovan is also a senior specialist in Urban Development and Housing from the IADB. He works as researcher and urban planner and is in charge of designing, executing, and assessing urban projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. He holds a Master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and completed his PhD. in City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley.
Mario Durán is a specialist in transport planning and economics of the IADB. His work comprises transit and urban transportation, highway engineering, highway safety, traffic engineering, transport policy, and clean fuels and vehicles. He is a Civil Engineer from the University of Costa Rica. In addition, he holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, with an emphasis on Public Policy, Economic Development, and Technology Transfer, from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government, United States. He also has a Master’s in Transport Planning and Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, United States.
