Theoretically, self-production can be planned or spontaneous. In Latin America, most cases of self-production correspond to informal settlements, better known as "camps", "favelas" or informal neighborhoods, built by their own inhabitants without prior planning exercises. The main objective is to provide tools in the legal-constructive framework for the benefit of the inhabitants of these urban environments.
